What is Gout Arthritis?

Gout is a common form of arthritis. It usually affects the joints of your feet and ankles, but particularly in the big toe. Gout is a metabolic disorder in which uric acid builds up in the fluid that lubricates the joint. As a result, crystals are formed at the joints and other places. Most suffers develop gout between 40 to 50 years of age and mainly in the men population. If the suffers goes without treatment after an attack it subsides in a week or so and it could occur in intervals of many months or even years between the next attack. As time goes by, these tend to become more frequent and more severe and eventually many joints may be involved.
